MLK Jr. Day of Service at Woodcrest

On Monday, January 18th, Woodcrest and LA Works teamed up to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and provide a day of service to revitalize our community.  We had over 1,300 people come out to Woodcrest to make it a beautiful place for our students, teachers, families and community.  Our special guests included: Mayor Eric Garcetti, LD West Superintendent Cheryl Hildreth, James Worthy and O'Shea Jackson.  We painted murals, built benches, planted flowers and cleaned our school.  All participants received a continental breakfast and lunch.  Kudos and thank you to all those who participated in making Woodcrest a positive and clean learning environment.

Woodcrest Parent Saturday Academy

Great news!  On Saturday, January 30th from 8:30-12:20, over 100 parents, grandparents, and guardians attended our Parent Saturday Academy. The day began with every participant receiving a door prize, a continental breakfast and a warm welcome from Mrs. Choyce, Dr. Lugo (LD West Director) and Ms. Calhoun (LD West Parent and Community Engagement Administrator). Participants selected and attended Local District West Parent and Community Engagement Unit sponsored workshops which offered a variety of informative topics and ways parents can help their children succeed in school.  The day ended on a high note with parents receiving a bag of groceries, a certificate of completion and raffle items.

Woodcrest Library Renovation

The library renovation event on Saturday, February 6th was a huge success!  Thank you so much to the 68 volunteers and staff who painted murals in the library and helped to sort/catalog books. A special thanks to Access Books and the Water Buffalo Club for sponsoring the event.  Our library was painted and our carpet was cleaned. In addition, we have 9 new murals, 2 new couches, 3,000 donated classroom books and 1,000 new library books. Our library is a more inviting place for students because of the efforts from our school staff, volunteers and community.
